What happens if I have to stop mentoring?

Mentoring is a serious commitment on the part of the mentor and the individual who is being mentored. It is not something to enter into unless you are certain you can fulfill expectations. It takes time to build trust between the mentor and mentee. Abruptly ending the relationship can have a negative affect. If you are not certain that you can make a long-term commitment, you may want to explore other alternatives, like tutoring or one-time projects. Unavoidable situations do happen, however. Illness, relocation for a job, a change in employment or other family/life issues can affect your ability to be an effective mentor. In such cases, you should contact your volunteer/site supervisor immediately to determine the best way to end the mentoring relationship.

What ages are the individuals who need mentors?
