Announcing the Mentor Training Institute

The Newark Mentoring Coalition (NMC) is pleased to announce the start of its Mentor Training Institute, co-sponsored by The Community Foundation of New Jersey in conjunction with the Communities In School, which will be launched at Rutgers University.  The training institute is designed to bring information, knowledge, and planning resources to help promote the effectiveness and sustainability of NMC members and others who recognize the value of mentoring and whose programs have benefitted thousands of children in Newark .  These trainings will focus on various elements of effective practices as well as other areas such as background and history of mentoring, mentoring concepts and practices, program policies and procedures, mentor training, mentor/mentee matches, access to resources, use of volunteers, crisis situations, and much more.

The initial training program will serve as an Introduction to Effective Mentoring and will run for two hours on March 12, 2010 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am, at Rutgers University Paul Robeson Campus Center , Bergen Room 256-7. Training is open to staff, volunteers, mentors, and parents involved with youth mentoring programs.
